muSoft, Presentation, IBM, Rome, Intensionallity - Exam time
Sat 12:05 27th May
Currently I am studying hard for my second year exams. I'm really hoping I can get a First class grade for this year. I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Just thought I'd post up some pictures from the presentation our software engineering group "muSoft" had to give to IBM. We came runners up out of all the groups (based on our group projects) for a chance to compete in the IBM Inter-university Thinkpad challenge. So sadly we don't get to go compete at IBM Hursley in September, we did however receive some free books from IBM, which was nice.
We all gave our best on the presentation and the project, which was great fun, and a great learning experience, so all was not lost. I think we all worked extremely well together, and we had a very strong group, with a broad range of (extremely strong) skills.

Also somehow on the back of this I have been nominated for the European IBM Top Student awards, and am going on an all expenses paid trip to Rome in July! I get toured round Rome, toured round the large IBM centre there, get to hear a lot about current IBM technologies they are working on and then I get to compete in a competition (in a group with other European students). First prize is a brand new Thinkpad each! So that's great, I can't wait and am very excited!

In other news I have been sorting out my third year project, and will be being supervised by Dr. Steve Matthews. My current project title is "Intensional Software Development", quite broad and vague title. The abstract is currently
"Research and development for methods of integrating the use of data-flow programming into functional/object-orientated languages. Possible additional work involving the exploration of data-flow programming in modern day applications and in the context of graphical development"

It's going to be a really fun project, roughly 50/50 on research and development.

Anyway onto those photos:-
